Martyr

She stood far behind the crowd, off to the side where she could see all of them but none could see her. She watched as Lois cried silent tears, as she tried to support her uncle and help sooth his pain. She could see Oliver’s stoic face as he tried to control his emotions. Most people wouldn’t have been able to tell how upset he was, but she could. Clark Kent stood in front of them all, describing the wonderful woman who had once been his best friend, describing a woman who had been strong, had been independent and had fought for what she had believed in, fought to make the world a better place. He made a promise to become more like her.

Chloe stepped away from the proceedings, brushing the last of her tears away. That wasn’t her life anymore. Her death had been the final push that Clark needed to become the man she knew he always could be; she just wished it hadn’t come at such high of a cost. Chloe Sullivan had died a martyr for the cause and it was best kept that way.

So Right, But All Wrong

His lips were on hers, his hands against her bare skin, and she couldn’t think about anything at all, let alone how this wasn’t supposed to be happening. She drew herself closer to him, closer than she ever thought she would be, kissing him as though she would never get the chance to again, because she knew she might not. And he kissed her back, like she was the best thing he had ever tasted, like he needed her and it was wonderful. She had imagined it so many times, never able to completely rid him from her mind and now she had him, she had him in front of her and it felt so very right. His lips left hers as he kissed his way down her neck, his hands making their way under her shirt, massaging her skin. And she went rigid in his hold, the feel of metal against her skin stopping her completely. Clark Kent didn’t wear a ring. Kal did.

Generosity

He had called her generous and she had laughed, surprising even herself with its bitter tone. She wasn’t being generous; she was giving him what he deserved. Oliver Queen was many things, a lot of them unflattering, but he would always be a hero to her. He had made mistakes, but so had she. He had a tendency to blur the line, he knew that sometimes you had to get your hands dirty, knew that the world wasn’t made up of Clark Kents. She wasn’t being generous when she called him a hero because she believed he was one. She had to believe that he was one. Because he wasn’t, than neither was she.

Denial

He smiles at her across the table and she fights the feelings he’s causing within her, forcing herself to look away. She tells herself that it isn’t true. That she couldn’t possibly be in love with him. Loving him would make everything more difficult, would only cause her heartbreak and pain. That was all love had ever done for her. She couldn’t remember a time when she had handed someone her heart and it hadn’t been handed back to her in pieces. She would not love him. She couldn’t love him.

She glances back at him, sees him grinning now at the blush that has spread across her skin and she knows it isn’t true.

Small

Standing next to Clark she had always felt small. Somehow he could make her feel needed and unimportant at the same time, he had a way of affecting her like no one else could. She had stood in front of powerful men like Lionel Luthor, had stood before men that wanted her dead, that could crush her and it wouldn’t affect them at all. But none of them had ever made her feel as small as he made her. He had the power to make her happy, to make her feel content and loved, but most of the time he left her feeling insignificant and weak. She could never be what he wanted, could never be the type of person that he was, and she hated that it mattered to her, that it had always mattered to her. But she knew as long as she stayed in Clark Kent’s shadow, it always would.

Safe Haven

She gave so much of herself to everybody else. Her time, her comfort, her support, her everything; she wanted something for herself. Something for her and her alone, and she found it in him. There were no lies because there were no questions, there was no disappointments because there were no expectations. There was just them, coming together in fear that left alone they would break apart.

She kept him part of the world; for a few hours he felt wanted, felt comfort and happiness, felt something. He took her out of her world, made her feel beautiful, made her feel needed, made her feel passion and fire like she never had before. And it didn’t change anything out of those rooms, beyond the mansion walls they were two separate entities, two very different people who didn’t interact except for when they were forced. But inside those walls, they came together, found what they never knew they were looking for, creating a haven that neither one wanted to leave. All they had was stolen hours; it was all they could ever have. But those stolen hours were cherished, forever only theirs, never to be forgotten.

These are all beautiful, but I thought you captured her fear & frustration especially well in Generosity and Small.
