Not Prime Time: Dear Writer Letter

Dear Not Prime Time Writer,

First, thank you so much for writing this for me. I am so happy and so looking forward to reading it. I hope that you have lots of fun writing it and enjoy yourself as much as I will once I get a chance to read it.

This is my first exchange of this type, so if I confuse you in any way, please feel free to contact the mods and ask me as many questions as possible through. Below I have story suggestions, random ideas, and favorite characters listed, but please take this wherever the wind leads you. It’s your story and I’m happy just to be getting it, that your writing about it for me.



Things I like: I love character studies and explorations of characters themselves and the things they go through/have gone through, the dark places that they get driven to and how they get brought back from those places (those don’t have to be the same story though). I love the exploration of relationships (romantic or not) and how the two people connect, what it is that makes them connect or even what it is about them that doesn’t allow them to connect or see each other clearly. I love the dynamic of two sides of the same coin and how they interact. I love characters not being able to let go of things (anger, hate, betrayal, loss, physical items; whatever). I love exploring backgrounds and how life has made them into the people they are today that we see. Flashbacks are a good things in my book. I love angst, feel free to throw all the angst you want my way. I love every female character I have listed on here, so while I’ll be happy no matter who you choose to write about man or woman, I always love seeing stories about women, no matter what they’re about.

Also, just a note, choose whatever character (or combination of characters) that you want, that speaks to you. But the first character listed of each fandom is my favorite (the rest aren’t in any particular order. I thought I’d just throw that out there.





Things I don’t like/want:

Dub-con/Non-con. If it’s a part of the canon history of the character, I don’t mind it being included, but nothing graphic please. But for the most part, I’d really rather it was not included.

Incest (with one almost exception which I’ll talk about in the Arrow section if that’s a fandom your considering writing in. But it’s more almost/accidental incest is the idea.)

Too much fluff. I certainly don’t mind a happy ending or even a hopeful ending. (I like hopeful endings, that leave you knowing things are going to get better, but things aren’t magically fixed.) I’m not a big fan of schmoop or anything too romantic either.

No death-fics please. Canon deaths, dealing with and grieving over canon deaths, all of these things are fine and would be interesting to be explored. But nothing that will end with one of the characters dying and me balling my eyes out please. I can take all the angst you want to hand me, but please don’t do it in the form of death-fic.

I’m not really looking for, PWP or smut, you can include it, but I’d much prefer plot/character studies/missions/days at the office.

No extensive descriptions of violence/torture/gore/blood. Obviously in a good chunk of these fandoms, all these things happen a lot. So I don’t mind it being included, but again please don’t be overly descriptive if you include it.

First person POV is a big no for me. And character studies should hopefully include interaction with other characters, even original ones.





Angel: the Series

Winifred Burkle, Illyria, Wesley Wyndam-Pryce, Cordelia Chase

I’d love a Fred fic, I haven’t found much out there in the world. Anything and anywhere you choose to take it, I will love it. I also love the relationships she built around her, (Wesley, Gunn, Angel, Spike, etc.) so I’d love to see them explored. I also ship all these things, so if you want to include that, feel free. I also love survivor-Fred, and vengeful vindictive Fred (the kind we got to see in Super-Symmetry) so if you want to mix that it, it’s always welcomed as well. The whole Fred-Illyria-Wesley dynamic is all kinds of interesting to me. An AU where Wesley lives and he and Illyria still fight together and he’s still living with the ghost of Fred works. A study of it, from before the series ended, works too. I also love the Wesley-Faith relationship even though she’s not included in my four, and would happily see that explored. I love Cordelia, anything that gives me more Cordelia would make me happy. One of my favorite things for her character was always the visions and how she dealt with them and how much of it she did alone, so if that’s something you’re interested in exploring, I’d be all for it. (I ship Cordelia/Angel, so if you want to throw that in there (or not) that’s awesome too.)

Arrow

Thea Queen, Felicity Smoak, John Diggle, Tommy Merlyn

There’s almost no Thea fic out there in the world (or at least none that doesn’t involve Roy and I’m not here for that, I’m here for her), so anything you want to give me of her, I’d love. Pre-series fic where we see her partying, following in her brother’s footsteps and talking to her brother’s grave, accepting Walter into her family; all the things we didn’t get to see pre-series, anything we didn’t get to see really. Her going on a downward spiral, her dealing with the aftermath of Tommy’s death, her finding out Oliver’s secret. Anywhere you want to go with her. Also, I’ll admit to having shipped Thea/Tommy in the first season of the series, so if you wanted to explore that relationship and what would have happened if he had shared her feelings, I would have love it. If you want to AU them as not half-siblings, also okay. I’d love anything to do with Felicity and the different friendships she has formed with unexpected people (Sara, Detective Lance, Walter, Tommy in an AU world, anyone you want), I would love that. As well as a story (romantic or friendship) with her and Diggle and the bond they’ve formed. There’s so much potential there to tap into in my opinion. And a story where the Clockmaker comes back, coming after Felicity specifically would be really interesting (as well as any other villains that somehow blame her for their capture). Tommy’s relationship with his dad, his life without Oliver, the effect his mother’s death had on him; all of these things would interest me. Also, an AU where he never died…Nothing wrong with that in the slightest. And well, Diggle is Diggle, give me anything you want with him. (Oliver of course is not listed, but very welcome in whatever story you might right, as he’s important to all of the characters.)

The Good Wife

Cary Agos, Alicia Florrick

A Cary character study would be wonderful, the downfall of being kicked out of his house at eighteen and how he clawed his way up to being a name member of his own firm. A story about his relationship with his parents. A story about his time being shuffled around law firms, of feeling second best always, no matter who he was with. Anything to do with Cary and Alicia and their relationship and how it’s evolved. Anything with Alicia and how she’s taught herself to put herself first, how ruthless the people around her have taught her to be. Give me anything with these two (separate or together) and I’ll be happy.

Haven

Duke Crocker, Audrey Parker

These are my two favorites, so put them together, have them on their own, put them together romantically; all of these things would make me happy. I understand that Nathan is an important element of the show, so I’m fine if you include him, but if you use canon that has him and Audrey together than I’d prefer it to be in the background, never at the center, and the jealousy never be an issue for him or Duke. I’d love an exploration of Duke and his powers. Or Audrey and her past lives. (So much potential in her remembering these lives.) A fic where the barn altered Duke and his trouble, made him immune to the troubles like Audrey is, or made him worse somehow; would also interest me. A trouble of the week gen fic works too.

NCIS: Los Angeles

Kensi Blye, Marty Deeks, G Callen

Kensi-centric fic would be my preference but again, go where the wind takes you. I’d love to see fic about her past, about her screwed up relationship with her mother, her year spent on the street, her opening up to Jack only to have him leave her, literally disappear. With recent episodes, I’d love an exploration of the idea that Jack had to leave her to get over his PTSD, to leave everything and everyone behind, and how that affects her relationship with Deeks, who pushed her away after his own bout with PTSD too, and how that affects her. Kensi’s abandonment issues coming out full force in any manner. Kensi/Deeks or Kensi/Callen fic would both make me happy. Or fics of their own for the guys, they have interesting pasts and I’d love to learn more. Also, fics were the teams get mixed up again and however you want to swap them, they have to learn to work with their new partner.

Person of Interest

Root, Sam Shaw

My love for Root knows no bounds, so give me anything for her and I’ll like it. An exploration of her past and how she became who she did would be interesting. The tug of war between her and Harold over the machine and who knows best would be wonderful. I find their dynamic so interesting. An AU where she was always the one receiving the numbers and recruited Shaw (and/or John) herself. A team up between Root and Shaw, them saving the world, them saving one person, whatever it may be. Shaw trying to readjust to civilian life, trying to tap into emotions she doesn’t have. Give me whatever your wonderful mind creates.
