1/2 (LJ is laughing at me)

SMALLVILLE
• The first character I fell in love with: I want to say Chloe is my actual answer to this, but I honestly don’t remember for sure, but she’s also my answer for the next one, so I’m going to go with Lex. I have a special soft spot for S1 Lex (and Lex in general) and his wonderful charismatic/non-subtle/non-apologetic self. I love his morally gray side and how sometimes he fights it and sometimes he nurtures it and uses it to his advantage. He is Lionel Luthor’s son and he learned his lessons well. I think early on when I really fell in love with him was when he was having drinks with Lionel’s goon and he’s laced the drink and the guy ends up in the back of his trunk to be delivered to Lionel. I just, that whole sequence is fantastic. As is when he blackmails the reporter into being on his side, threatening to take away his whole life piece by piece, and of course, when he throws the fencing sword (lance?) and it almost hits Clark in the pilot. All of these things. So perfect. And I just kept falling more and more in love over the seasons. (I have such a soft spot for the Luthors, even though, I probably shouldn’t considering all the bad things they do, LOL.)
• The character who is my ‘baby’: Chloe, of course its Chloe. I will defend Chloe from fictional and real people alike and am always on her side. Not that I don’t recognize her faults, I just understand them and can see them as character traits/things that make sense and I will try to make others see that too. Also, I spend a lot of the time just wanting to reach through the screen and hug her and tell her she deserves better (and she’ll get it eventually because I’m a Chlollie fan, lol, but I can also head canon Chlean wise too. ;D). I just love Chloe. For me there will never be another Chloe Sullivan. Such a wonderful character, full of life and curiosity and a thirst for the truth. Someone who doesn’t always do the right things, but is loyal to a fault, who will always fight for what she believes is right. Someone who will defend the world when no one else around her is willing. Who stands up for herself against powerful men and does it with a smile and determined eyes. Who is never without a quip. Who is human and yet more powerful than most of them men surrounding her. Who never gave up on her dreams. Again, there will never be another Chloe Sullivan for me. Not that I have to convince you, LOL.
• The character who I do not understand: Jonathan is a character I always had trouble understanding (also liking). I understood aspects of his characters, because of course he would be overly cautious when it came to Clark. He wasn’t just a parent but he was a parent of a child who he feared would be exploited or worse, that could be taken away from him. I always understood that aspect. But he was so confusing when it came to the Luthors, especially Lex. One minute he doesn’t trust him, then he’s willing to give him a chance, and then he snatches it away again. (And the cycle goes on and on.) He is so determined to put the sins of the father onto the son that he doesn’t realize that he’s one of the people making Lex more like his father. And he conveniently forgets his own involvement with Lionel, the choices he made regarding him. He ignores the fact that apparently he was the one that talked the Ross’s into selling their factory, that he made the deal with Lionel, that he was the first one to bring the Luthors into their lives. His treatment of Clark also often left me baffled. Yes, you want to protect your son, and sometimes that means protecting others from him (because Clark is still mastering his abilities) but the way he goes about it. Personally I think Martha just needed to smack him upside the head a few times.
