She’s thirsty, so very thirsty, and she wonders if they wander the caves enough if they’ll find some water source. They had weird portal things that she was pretty sure literally sent her best friend hurling through space and time (and her into a big painful rock), so water didn’t seem that big of a stretch really.
Lex stops what he’s doing and turns to her.
“I didn’t have anything to do with your safe or what happened, I was just as confused as you were. All I wanted was to make sure Lana was safe.”
“I had already sent Lana out on a chopper.” Lex says turning away.
“Of course you did,” Chloe laughs bitterly.
Lana got sent away in a pretty chopper. Chloe got to dodge meteor rocks in a sports car with a guy having a mental break down.
“Well, whatever, I don’t care. All I know is that the safe was like that when I got there and whatever was missing, if anything actually was, I had nothing to do with it.”
“You always have something to do with it, Chloe.” Lex says, “You’re always partnered with the wrong person, have gotten into something too deep, and you some always end up involved.”
Chloe laughs again, bitter and humor mixed together. “Once upon a time, Lex, that guy I partnered with was you.”
He stopped moving rocks, just stood there for a little while, staring out of the hole he had made. It was slightly larger now, but not big enough to get through.
“You asked me what happened, Lex.” Chloe asks, “I want to know the same thing. Because the guy I remember, he held my hand when Lionel’s verdict was read. He didn’t hold my arms so tightly he left bruises.”

Lex went back to moving rocks and Chloe went back to listening for someone coming to rescue them.
The silence became the third person in the room, observing them almost.
They didn’t talk unless necessary.
(Eventually help came, but it wasn’t in the form of Clark.
Chloe hadn't expected it to be, but she thinks Lex did.)

And is it just me or did you have to force yourself to let it come to an end and not keep writing more?
Anyway, I always love it when Chloe and Lex call each other out on their history and past actions/transgressions.
And above all else I love it when they're true to their characters and as close to their onscreen relationship as possible, because I just love the antagonistic nature of their relationship, which is why Lex is my favorite adversary for Chloe. So, yeah, love this and love that they are both 100% themselves/how I see them. :)

I didn't have to force myself to stop writing, I had gotten pretty much to where I wanted (though maybe with a little less detail), but I will admit that it does feel like a beginning of something, like there should be more to follow. That in this AU this is just the beginning of the Chloe-Lex storyline. So I wouldn't be opposed if my muse decides to make this either the beginning of a fic or the first in a series of one shots of an AU S5.
Yes! That's something I love too and something that in general didn't happen enough on the show. I love that they are capable of seeing each other who they are, flaws and strengths, and that it makes it so they can call each other out on their crap. And sometimes its in a very toxic, meant to hurt way, and other times its just a quiet kind of truth. And I agree, its one of many reasons that even after they become enemies for all intents and purposes, their scenes still shine, because of it.
